Hey Beauties, welcome to 2015!
What are your new year resolutions?
I personally don’t make resolutions as I break them ALL the time, but there are two very important things I want to achieve this year, to exercise and eat healthy every single day (I’m curious to see if I can go 365 days). To jumpstart my goal, I decided to join two challenges – a fitness and a rawfood challenge hosted by two bloggers I really like Cassey Ho of Blogilates and Kritsina from FullyRawKristina.
I’ve always been interested in Pilates and my challenge was finding certified, good instructors in Abuja (If you know of any please let me know). I’m not a fan of high intensity workouts or cardio neither do I like working out in the Gym (I’ve only been able to manage one day at the gym my entire life!) but I do like walking. So, I was literally blown away when I discovered Blogilates. That is, until I actually tried out the excercises. My first session, all I could manage was Oh My God! Ouch!! and Chai!!! I didn’t last 5 mins I tell you. And, for someone who almost never sweats, I was sweating buckets 3 mins into the workout. But I kept at it. By week one, I could feel myself getting strong and gaining a bit of flexibility, but no weight loss (which was fine). I like the fact that the workouts are short and don’t always involve jumping and running. The idea of short workouts that target specific body parts suits me just fine. I tried to squeeze in my workouts in the morning 5-15mins max 5 days a week. My schedule was working till I fell ill and just stopped altogether.
Now its 2015 and my plan is to get moving 365 days and to help me get started, I’ve joined 2 challenges on Blogilates:
I like that I don’t have think what workout to do everyday. It’s all in the calendar and all I have to do is follow it.If you are planning to do pilates, check with your physican first. While pilates is a great exercise, you risk back pain if not done properly. My advice if you plan to follow blogilates or an online fitness class is to listen and follow instructions on posture (this is very, very important) or find a certified instructor to put you through the exercises. That said, pilates is great for building strength, resistance and improving posture and backpain.
The other challenge I’m doing is food related. I joined the 21 day rawfood challenge on FullyRawKristina. You can read about my previous rawfood experience here. The aim is to have at least one raw meal a day, but I might do two or full on raw the entire day, depends on how I’m feeling and what my schedule for the day will be. If you find yourself trying to get motivated to start a healthy lifestyle, then join any or both challenges. Nothing like having a community of supporters to keep you motivated and on track.
